Was 2020 a lost year?

I remember back in 2019 when everyone was talking about how great 2020 was going to be. It wasn't just the usual new year's resolutions but also the expectation that a new decade would start and suddenly everything would change. Now, I'm sure a pandemic wasn't what they were expecting but you've gotta give them some credit, they were right about things suddenly changing. Many people have since considered 2020 to be a lost year and I suppose that in a way they are right. We weren't able to meet up with friends or go to parties, classes were moved online and sometimes it seemed like a week or two would pass without ever stepping foot outside. But look at the bright side, I'm sure we all had a Netflix show that we finally got to finish.

Seriously though, 2020 wasn't a lost year and it wasn't all bad. Don't get me wrong online classes are not my forte, but it was nice being able to spend more time with my dogs in the morning. Not to mention that I was able to get more homework done between classes which gave me more free time in the evenings for other things. I started taking my dogs to the dog park every day, I earned to crochet and I even started boxing. Granted I started boxing because I figured I could use the credit and it would kill some time but I actually ended up loving it. A year ago I could probably only do 3 or 4 pushups and a 10-second plank seemed impossible. Now, I can probably do 30 pushups before I start to feel it and a minute plank is a nice break during a workout. But boxing didn't just help me physically, it also helped with my anxiety and my PTSD is practically non-existant now, not to mention that, for the first time in a long time, I don't hate what I see in the mirror. So yeah, 2020 isn't going to be winning any awards for being the best year ever but that doesn't make it a lost year. A year is what you make it and I decided to make it a good year.

  2. Congrats on making some new habits that help to decrease mental illness! I have been on a rollercoaster this past year with my mental illness, and just within the last few months started doing Chloe ting workouts, my anxiety has been reduced. My depression is still around but that isn't something that will just go away over night (plus I have legitimate reasons like a terminally ill parent I am caring for). I do feel like I am getting better at managing my time to juggle school, work, and caring for my mom.

  3. Hi Maddy!
I also talked about how this last year has given me more time to spend with my dog which is something very important to me. That's so amazing that you found boxing as a new hobby. It's something that I've never tried before but I would love to. I have also found new hobbies that have helped with my anxiety and body dysmorphia such as taking long walks, reading, and listening to podcasts.

  4. Hi Maddy! I'm glad you found outlets to improve your mental health. 2020 was definity a year of many changes and you did a great job to get the most out of it. I think most people took on new activities and hobbies, for example I started hiking more.
